Allen Eyes Unacademy Buyout at $800M Valuation

Hello,
Markets closed flat yesterday as investors remained cautious ahead of the RBI's upcoming monetary policy announcement. Nomura has projected that the RBI could implement a 100-basis-point rate cut during this cycle. Meanwhile, Allen is reportedly in discussions to acquire Unacademy at a valuation of $800 million, a significant drop from its peak valuation of $3.4 billion. In other news, Abyro Capital has introduced a $25 million fund aimed at supporting startups in both India and the United States.

As of 04/12/24

  • Indian markets faced challenges in maintaining recent gains during today’s session as investors exercised caution ahead of the RBI's monetary policy announcement.

  • Although the session began on a positive note, frontline indices lost momentum and briefly turned negative. Nonetheless, robust buying in the banking sector provided essential support, allowing the indices to recover and end with modest gains.

  • The RBI is expected to reduce the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) to enhance liquidity in the banking system and stimulate lending, which could benefit financial firms' profitability.
