India and EU Close to Striking Major Trade Deal

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal says India and the EU are on track to conclude their free trade agreement by the end of the year

Hello,
IT stocks dragged the markets lower on Friday, despite some support from PSU stocks. Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated that India and the EU could conclude FTA talks by the end of the year. In major deals, the Shapoorji Group secured $3.35 billion in the largest private transaction led by Deutsche Bank, while Jubilant Bhartia is planning to raise ₹5,650 crore via NCDs to fund a 40% stake in its Coca-Cola venture.

As of 30/05/25

  • The Indian stock market ended the final trading session of May in the red, as a sharp sell-off in technology, auto, and metal stocks wiped out gains from the previous day’s rebound.

  • PSU stocks provided limited support, falling short of lifting the indices. However, broader markets closed with only mild losses, suggesting that market breadth remained positive.

  • Markets continued to trade in a narrow range amid the absence of fresh domestic triggers, while renewed global trade tensions and erratic foreign investor flows kept investors cautious.
