India and UK to Restart FTA Talks Next Month?

Hello,
Markets saw modest gains once again, as investors exercised caution ahead of the Federal Reserve’s upcoming announcement regarding a potential interest rate cut later today.

In the digital payments space, PhonePe continues to dominate, now commanding an impressive 50% of the UPI market by transaction value in August, significantly outpacing its nearest competitor, Google Pay. Meanwhile, India is preparing to resume its Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with the United Kingdom next month. PN Gadgil Jewellers made an impressive debut on the stock market, with its shares closing over 65% higher.

As of 17/09/24

  • The Indian market saw another day of consolidation on Tuesday, with traders staying cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy meeting. Today, the Fed is anticipated to make its first rate cut since 2020.

  • Policymakers started their two-day meeting yesterday, and market opinion is split on whether they will reduce rates by a quarter point or take the less typical approach of a half-point cut. This follows the emergency rate cut in March 2020 during the early stages of the Covid pandemic.
